BEVERAGES

Provide a wide selection of beverages for your guests to enjoy at your barbecue. The following are some good examples:

  • mineral water
  • sodas - diet and non-diet; colas and non-colas
  • juices
  • alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks
  • energy drinks
  • sports drinks
  • teas - iced and hot
  • coffee - iced and hot

Soft drinks are usually preferred beverages at outdoor events. Hereís a helpful list of a few popular types and brands of soda pop that your guests might enjoy:

Colas:

  • Pepsi
  • Coca-Cola
  • Royal Crown (RC) Cola

Non-Colas:

  • Sprite (lemon-lime flavored)
  • 7 Up (lemon-lime flavored)
  • Canada Dry Ginger Ale
  • Dr. Pepper
  • A&W Root Beer
  • Big Red (citrus-flavored)
  • Mountain Dew (citrus-flavored)
  • Sunkist (orange-flavored)
  • Fanta (fruit-flavored)
  • Hansenís Natural (variety of flavors - diet and non-diet)
  • Canada Dry Club Soda (sparkling seltzer water - flavored and non-flavored)

In addition to the aforementioned beverages, offer the adults of legal drinking age a choice of alcoholic drinks (i.e. ice-cold beer) as well as non-alcoholic drinks for designated drivers.

Remember, donít forget the ice! At your barbecue event, have plenty of ice available, especially on a hot summer afternoon.

Helpful tips: To avoid watering down a drink with ice cubes made of plain H2O, try flavored ice cubes! Overnight, freeze a portion of whatever specialty beverage you will be serving (i.e. lemonade, punch, etc.). When you are ready to serve the beverage, place the flavored ice cubes into a glass pitcher, pour the beverage, and serve.

Another great suggestion is to place a piece of fresh fruit (i.e. raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, etc.), a crisp mint leaf, or the zest of a lemon or orange into each compartment of the tray, then fill the entire ice cube tray with water and freeze overnight. When you are ready to serve the beverage, place the decorative ice cubes into a glass pitcher, pour the beverage, and serve. The beverage will not only taste refreshing, but will be an attractive ornamental display pleasing to the eye!

The following are easy-to-follow, step-by-step recipes for refreshing and fabulously invigorating homemade beverages - perfect to serve at your cookout!

                             Iced Coffee

                             Iced Tea

                             Lemonade

                             Punch

                             Spritzers
